What Do Music Distributors Actually Do?
Now a days there are many different online music distributors like Distrokid, UnitedMasters, CD Baby, Songflowr, & Ditto to just name a handful.
Largely music distributors all do the exact same work in the exact same way. The difference is in how you as an artist pay for the service that is done.
Streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and Tidal essentially all use the same system to communicate and organize the music on their platforms. When distributed each song is given a unique ID number called an ISRC code that tracks the streams for the song on each streaming platform and tracks the royalties owed to artist.
Music distributors are essentially tollbooths to this highway system that connects all of the streaming platforms.
Songflowr is the first music distributor that allows musicians to keep 100% of their royalties and only pay once for that access to the streaming platform highway.
I talk about this and what makes Songflowr artist friendly for the musicians who use it.
