The Art of Seeing Through | Ismael Gabasau

Ismael put his art aside while pushing himself to focus on science. There was a battle inside between the whisper calling for his real passion, and on the other side the social expectation. Then he took a brush and started painting. The whisper grew louder and louder and eventually quieted the voices of social expectation. In the end, art prevailed.

When Ismael Gabasau is in front of a canvas, the blank space draws him into introspection. The canvas invites Ismael to ask the right questions, but most of those questions are not clear and he often needs to paint them in order to reach self-awareness. For Ismael, that blank space is a reflection of his inner light, and only in that solitude do feelings and memories come up with such clarity that they can be shaped into different forms of art. He takes those emotions and mixes them with the melodies in his head in order to translate them into songs.

His songs are strongly influenced by jazz, bossa-nova and funk. For the production of his first EP, “The Art of Seeing Through”, Ismael worked with different producers from countries like Australia, Brazil, India, and Mexico through the plattform Soundbetter.com. His first EP will be released soon.
