Upcoming Artist You Should Know: ShowTime GMG
ShowTime GMG has been making music for a long time, and since returning from a hiatus, he has dedicated himself to making incredible music and stacking fans. From Twista’s GMG Entertainment, ShowTime has become one of the can’t miss rappers in the game.
His style is straightforward, his lines are clever, and his music has a star vibe to it. Once we tell you about how he got his start in music, you’ll understand what we mean when we say he’s destined for big things.
At the end of next month, the highly talented emcee will be dropping a new album titled ‘Sho Frazier 2’, the follow-up to an earlier project titled ‘Sho Frazier’. With his return to the spotlight and a fresh release on the way, we took some time to catch up with ShowTime. In our conversation, we asked him about the upcoming album, how he got started music, and where he sees himself in the long run.
Let’s get started by learning more about how he got here.
To kick off our conversation with ShowTime we asked him how he got started in music in the first place.
“I was working on music from a young age. One day DJ Timbuk2, who passed away, had one of my songs on his radio show. At the same time Twista was there doing an interview for his album ‘Category’. They heard my song and reached out to us. I signed not long after.”
See, we told you his story has an element of destiny to it. But as they say, luck is what happens when opportunity and preparation meet. In this case, the talent and quality of ShowTime’s music were at the right place at the right time.
Looking to understand his background a bit more, we asked him about his major musical influences.
“Growing up I was a big fan of Eminem, Mystikal, 50 Cent, Twista, Cassidy and few more when I was younger.”
That’s a heavy-hitting list with some of the biggest names of the last 20 years on it. Those influences have an impact on his sound, but like any talented artist, there’s only one person who sounds like ShowTime, and that’s himself.
With the background, a bit more in focus, let’s now turn our attention to ‘Sho Frazier 2’. With the release upcoming next month, we gave ShowTime the “open mic” to tell us about it.
“‘Sho Frazier 2’ is the second installment in the series that was first started in March 2012. ‘Sho Frazier’ gained alot of traction and was the most notable project to date. ‘Sho Frazier 2’ will be just as good and better. The first was a mixtape with 21 songs. This album will have everything in the first version, in less songs.”
When asked about his favorite song on the upcoming album, he told us this.
“Not to give away too much that’s on the album, but the intro track features HaHa Davis and Aries Spears. It’s pretty good.”
We know that we are certainly looking forward to that one. Beyond just this release, there is a lot to look forward to when it comes to what’s on the horizon for ShowTime. Looking towards that, we asked him what his goals are for his career, and here’s what he told us.
“When I was younger I was chasing the music and tiring myself out trying to “make it”. I would have to borrow money from Twista, do smaller shows, and any promo just to live the dream. Now I have businesses, my studio, my own money, and a family. I don’t feel the need to chase it as much. I can do what I want when I want. Which lets me think clearly and not compromise making good music by always trying to make the next hit record. “
We love artists who are focused on making quality music first and that certainly is the case when it comes to ShowTime. When we asked him why people should check him out and this new record, he again put the music at the forefront of this answer.
“Because it’s me! The same showtime that they loved, just better. The time off made the music better.”
